Return to …

TROON HISTORY SOCIETY

March 19th 2026

What a delight it was to be asked to return to Troon History Society, with a second helping of what life was life in Ayr in 1898.

On this occasion, I selected stories connected with transport - ladies cycling, and new rail routes ; the aftermath of a fire at Ayr Town Hall; badly behaved citizens (adults and children) ; the need to ‘shop local’; issues with the Auld Brig of Ayr in bad repair, and much more.

Thank you for the warm welcome, rapt response and good questions.

I thoroughly enjoyed by evening.
