HIGHLIGHT TALK

at Robert Burns Birthplace Museum

26th October 2022

  • Introducing OCULEUS to Alloway

Taking listeners on a time travelling journey to 1898 and sharing, amongst other things, what Burns-related concerns were being discussed that year.

And the answer? A Burns’ Supper in Mauchline, plans for a new railway station in Alloway, and the shabby state of the Tam o’ Shanter Museum on Ayr’s High Street.

  • An enthusiastic reception...

A very receptive audience of more than forty were keen to ask questions too.

I always enjoy hearing new queries which often lead me to more research. In this case, I was asked what my great grandfather would have earned for his position at The Ayrshire Post - I wish I knew!

  • Encouraging book sales too...

It makes it all the more enjoyable meeting with and talking to audience members with a shared love of history.

On this occasion, I also had the pleasure of meeting an ex-colleague.

    Happy days!

Many thanks to Melvyn Gibson, organiser of the HIGHLIGHT TALKS, for inviting me to speak.
